We've all heard the infamous rumours that seem to be tearing some people apart these days in the modelling industry. Most choose to ignore the hype while some cling to the last string of hope that it might be true. What is it that's keeping these model enthusiasts on edge? Gemma Ward's comeback.

As many have already heard, Gemma was signed with the fairly new addition to the IMG agency: the IMG Australia branch. This happened in 2011 and the site presented her undeniably impressive portfolio stretching at least a mile away.

Because of this, her comeback was almost immediately set in stone and fashion lovers all around the world only needed to wait and keep their "refresh" button close at hand. But, since then, the elite queen of Vogue's life has changed drastically, as did the conclusion (or at least the length) of her return.

Please welcome Gemma's baby, Naia (rumoured name), with long-time model boyfriend, David Letts, also from Australia, early in December on the 3rd. The couple was seen between flights from Perth to Hawai'i where they went to have her baby. Before the baby news shocked the fans, Gemma was scheduled to have a photoshoot for Vogue Australia, as well as a couple of public appearances in Sydney.

Undoubtedly, her highly-anticipated revival in the modelling industry has been put back on the shelf as she prepares for mummy-life.

But what put her out of the public eye in the first place? Some say it was due to her acting career which made a nice-sized impression for movie critics and fans alike. Her first appearance in the cinemas happened when she filmed The Strangers starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman. She wore a creepy dolly mask the entire movie, so her acting skills shined brighter than her impeccable beauty. Other appearances in her model hiatus included Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides as the leader of the mermaids, and in The Great Gatsby.

Others think that her break started in 2007 when A-list actor Heath Ledger died, rumoured to be linked as her boyfriend at the time. This may have led to Gemma's shocking weight gain which she got berated for harshly by the industry.

But no need to chastise her about her weight now – it all went to the baby's health. Until then, the other wait continues for her appearance in a magazine spread, hopefully following the footsteps of Mariacarla, Devon, and Sasha after their baby news.
